You can't drive to Belle Isle. The only route is a pedestrian suspension bridge from Tredegar Street near the American Civil War Museum. Free parking lines Tredegar and fills nearby lots, but weekends bring crowds. The bridge takes 5 minutes to cross and delivers good river views-just expect some sway that rattles nervous walkers. Several informal trails branch across the island once you arrive. Wear solid shoes. The terrain turns rocky and uneven without warning.
